Check out the chapters first before you go to the survey. Here's some basic info about what you'll find in each chapter. Chapter 6 -- How our Solar System formed, how did the planets form, what are the basic properties of the Solar System, what are other "Solar" Systems like, how people find planets orbiting other stars. Chapter 7 -- How did Earth turn out the way it did, with stable climate and life? Why didn't the other terrestrial planets turn out that way? What's the deal with "global warming," why might we need to worry about it? What spacecraft are we sending to the other planets? Chapter 8 -- What are the outer, giant planets like? How are they similar/different? What are their moons like? What are their rings like? What spacecraft are we sending to the other planets? Chapter 9 -- What are asteroids and comets like? Why might we need to worry about asteroids hitting Earth and ruining civilization? What is Pluto like -- and why is it not a "planet" any more? What are meteor showers? Chapter 10 -- What's our Sun like? Where does it get its energy? How does it affect life/climate on Earth? Chapter 11 -- What are some of the properties of stars? How are mass, luminosity, temperature and diameter related? How can we classify stars? Chapter 12 -- How do stars live? How do they get their energy? What do stars of different mass do with their lives? Chapter 13 -- How do stars die? What are black holes, neutron stars, supernovae, white dwarfs? Chapter 14 -- What's our Milky Way like? What is its structure? Where are we in it? How did it form in the first place? Chapter 15 -- What are other galaxies like? What are the various types, and how did they turn out that way? How do stars form within the various types of galaxies? Chapter 16 -- How do we know the Universe is expanding? What's it expanding in to? Will it expand forever? Why is it expanding in the first place? What's "dark matter" and what's "dark energy"? Chapter 17 -- What's the Big Bang? Why do we think that it's the right description of the origin of the Universe? What happened during the Universe's earliest stages? When did matter actually form? Why is there no antimatter? Chapter 18 -- Is there life in the Universe somewhere else? What might life be like somewhere else? Could it be somewhere in the Solar System aside from Earth? Could ETs be here now, visiting us regularly? Could interstellar or intergalactic space travel be feasible?
