SCALE-UP Project at UCF / Photogallery

The Student Centered Activities for Large Enrollment Undergraduate Programs (SCALE-UP Project) is researching ways to implement studio/workshop-style instruction for classes of up to 100 students.

During the 2001-2002 academic year, a phase I scale-up classroom (40 student capacity) was in operation at UCF - see pictures below.

For the Fall 2002 semester, this room will double in capacity to 80 students and UCF will offer its first full-size SCALE-UP class for first semester University Physics (regular lecture sections have 80-90 students).

Items to note:

  • Each table seats 10 students: 2 groups of three and 1 group of four.
  • Each group has access to a networked laptop and equipment to perform most class experiments.
  • The instructor station is in the middle of the classroom.
  • Whiteboards placed around the room.
