Educational Background
- B.S., 1985, University of Washington
- M.S., 1987, Brown University
- Ph.D., 1991, Brown University
Personal Background
Dr. Britt began his career in Planetary Science with a postdoctoral appointment at the University of Arizona's Lunar and Planetary Laboratory studying the mineralogy of asteroids. In 1993 he served as Project Manager, Co-Investigator, and Deputy Imaging Team leader for the camera on NASA's Mars Pathfinder lander. He also participated as a Co-Investigator and Science Team member for NASA's Deep Space One mission to comet 19P/Borrelly. From 1999 to 2003 Dr. Britt was an Associate Professor of Planetary Science at the University of Tennessee. In July 2003 Dr. Britt joined the UCF Physics faculty as the second member of our growing Astronomy and Planetary Science group.
Research Background
Dr. Britt's research revolves around using the tools of remote sensing to determine the composition and evolution of solar system objects including asteroids, comets, and Mars. Specific projects include: - Telescopic observations of S-type asteroids
- Research into the surface processes on comets
- Analysis of the spectral alteration effects of the Martian environment
- Fabrication of radiometric calibration targets for Mars landers
- Research into the density and structure of asteroids and meteorites.
